Where is the most exciting place you’ve ever lived or visited?

I have been very blessed both through my career and personal life to have traveled to many far off and exotic places.  I’ve seen the Great Wall and Forbidden Palace in China, fed reindeer in Norway, seen romantic sunsets in Santorini, remnants of the Berlin Wall, the Grand Kremlin Palace in Russia, and ruins of Normandy beaches.  I have trained cobras in Morocco, been to the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, seen the rivers in the Philippines used in the filming of “Apocalypse Now”, laid on the beaches of Maui, and visited the Opera House in Sydney.

I’ve taken gondola rides in Venice, crazy subway rides in Tokyo, rickshaws in India and a few questionable airline flights in between. There are a few rumors of flaming drinks getting out of control in Galway, drinking beer from a glass boot in Copenhagen and using up all the shot glasses in Riviera Maya, but those are tales for another day…

People would be surprised to learn that I …

…play the trumpet. Proudly self-proclaimed as the “worst horn player who ever attempted to play,” I love the instrument and in my spare time try to slip away into a quiet (and hopefully sound-proof) room to jam to some old jazz albums or contemporary Christian music.  In another life my dream was always to play and tour with a group like Chicago or Earth, Wind and Fire.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Virginia at the Naval Base in Portsmouth.  I spent a few years there before moving to Connecticut when my father left the Navy.  We lived in Connecticut until I was six and then moved to Westerly, Rhode Island, where I lived until I moved after college.  I am a New Englander through and through and cannot imagine living more than 30 minutes from the New England coast.
